Warner has announced the long awaited Paul Schrader directed film Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist which will be released on 25th October 2005. The film traces the story of Father Lankester Merrin back to his first encounter with the Devil in post-WW II Africa.

Heres what Roger Ebert had to say about the film:

"A milestone in movie history. Not a "director's cut" but a different director and a different film. It's a strong, true, and intelligent film that kept me facinated and terrified from beginning to end."

If you don't know about the whole Exorcist prequel incident, heres the story:

Well, long story short, director Paul Schrader filmed and completed his version of the Exorcist prequel but when it was shown to the people at Warner Bros, they weren't very happy saying that the film "lacked scares" and had too much talking. So, they hired director Renny Harlin to make a totally new version of the prequel which we now know as Exorcist: The Beginning. After The Beginning was a flop, Warner decided to screen Schrader's version of the film at a film festival and was "praised by critics," which is why they decided to release this DVD.
