I was at Best Buy yesterday and noticed that all the Superbit editions have been reduced to $9.99. There is no expiration date on this offer. The DVDs are marked at this price from the BB wharehouse. Thought I share this info with you guys. Looks like Superbit idea flopped.

Eddie,
You are the kind of "double dip"! :D
I love my Superbit version of "The Fifth Element". It's crystal clear, and gorgeous!

the next gen of optical discs is right around the corner. plus, when you release two-disc special editions, the bit rates for video and audio are very high anyway. when you consider the fact that other studios release dvds at comparable or higher bit rates than ones offered by superbit discs, you have to wonder what sony was doing in the first place...

You are right Eddie. I was suprised at the prices because none of the websites have dropped their prices. It appears that best buy is getting rid of superbit inventory. Superbit was never required at first place. Very difficult to convince customers to buy a $22-$24 disc.
PS: Superbit edition of Das Boot is pretty cool.

I for one would be interested in snagging Lawrence of Arabia for superbit, sure I have the collector's edition, but the picture is so so.

Well, the SuperBit version of "Das Boot" is prolly the best version of the movie in terms of video and audio. Therefore, that is one of only two SuperBit releases in my collection--the other being "Underworld", which looks only marginally better than the regular release.

What kills me is that, due to different distribution reqs throughout the world, there are non-R1 SuperBit titles that don't exist in R1. For example, there is a Japanese SuperBit release of "Jurassic Park" (Universal in the U.S.)!!!
