Anyone seen Memories of Murder? I hope so. Its a film being released in america on dvd for the first time by Universal. It was huge in Korea a few years ago. Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought if it....I loved it. I thought it was extremely intelligent and honest. Also, it was beautifully shot. If you havent seen it, i strongly suggest it. Its an old school cop drama about S. Korea's first serial killer. Its more about the cops and their wanting to find the killer, than about the killer and suspense of finding him (if that distinction makes any sense). Anyway, i completely recommend it. I also suggest that you check out the trailer, that got me hooked. Its on the films website at - EXTERNAL LINK - I really loved this film. I saw it two weeks ago and i am still thinking about it.

I saw this in France in Korean with French subtitles. Therefore, I didn't understand it completely. However, I was strongly affected by the movie's oddball mix of dark humor and social commentary on the country's lack of police resources since the government was cracking down on dissidents. The movie takes place during the last year of martial law, right before South Korea's first true open elections.

A lot of good or important South-Korean movies deal with the country's reactions to fascism/martial law. "Tae Guk Gi" is a good example (review here: - EXTERNAL LINK -
