Hock. Did you actually WATCH the DVD for more than 5 minutes before reviewing it? The family are called the TANNERS (not turners), the show was always intended to be a crossover show for both adults and kids, same as the Simpsons, The Munsters, The Flintstones etc etc. It's kinda the whole point of the show with the adult edge to the writing but also family orientated storylines and the ALF character. It's original prime time timeslot is a big clue to this.

Also in your intro you talk about how some TV shows get canned, go into syndication, get picked up by cable channels and then link into the ALF review by saying that DVD is now here for shows that weren't good enough for that. You do realize that ALF went into syndication late in the original series and has never left TV screens since 1986 ? - The show has been seen regularly in over 50 countries and still airs prime time in many of them. Of course the show is dated and harks back to the 80's, thats when the show was set and the whole point of this coming to DVD is that ALF is a cult pop culture icon from this time - it's exactly why people want this set!

Perhaps you are too young to really appreciate what ALF is or meant to people, or simply just didn't do your research properly before writing the review.

Hello gonzo007,

I really must apologize for the slip-up in the names! Unforgivable. Thanks for pointing it out. :.(

When I was a kid, ALF was funny in many ways. First it catered to kids and as you so elegently point out, it had an adult edge to it, which really appealed to the younger set. But still I think that it should have stuck to one track instead of putting both feet on different boats. It's just my opinion.

Oh, my comments about syndication may not have been totally clear. I was talking in general terms but it may have somehow been miscontrued as also relating to ALF. I'll try to be clearer next time. Thanks for also pointing this out.

Yes, I am a big fan of ALF and I did watch more than 5 minutes of the DVD! In fact I watched every episode. I used to watch the show way back when it first aired and I really loved it. That is why I requested to review this DVD set (not that it was pushed on me to do it). However, this time around, it somehow doesn't seem as entertaining as I remembered it. I knew that I would certainly be stepping on some toes when I mentioned that ALF does not appeal to me as much now. I know there are lots of fans of the show out there and they have been waiting for this DVD for a long time and my comments would be treading on sacred ground! The 80's thing do bring back lots of memories but it should be mentioned that in 2004, ALF (the sitcom) does not resonate as much. In short, IMHO it is dated. Now, if we are talking about ALF (the alien), hey, he'll still be funny in 100 years!

But...that's just me speaking. ;)

Thanks for your comments.
