I kept waiting to be scared. When the husband went crazy and almost killed everyone but didn't we were just supposed to believe the wife would suddenly forgive him and drag his sorry ass onto a boat? I especially enjoyed the fact that they say: based on THE true story, as if indicating it was THE story we had all heard about would convince us to see it. Frankly I was more confused as I was trying to remember if that was ever in the book or in the other movie, and I think they missed out on some great moments. Sure the red eyes of the old movie look silly nowadays, but with today's possibilities it could have been genuinely frightening. Too bad, maybe in 2031 they'll get it right.

If any of you guys remember in the book how George was always awakened at 3:15am, here???s something interesting. According to paranormal research, between the hours of 3 to 3:30am is when paranormal activity is at its peak. Why this is can be left to anyone???s best guess; however, it is just something that is noted in the field and is better known as ???The Witching??? hour. As I said, in the novel, George is awakened at 3:15am and he would generally experience some type of paranormal activity at this time. The movie even makes mention that Ronald Defeo murdered his family members at 3:15am by showing us his alarm clock stopping on that exact time.
Dealing with a full time work schedule, it took me a couple nights worth of free time to write this review; much of it was due to the research I did for the review. Each evening I worked on the review I???d be asleep by 10pm but then I was awakened each evening at 3am. It was 3:30am my time here in Phoenix when I posted this review. Kind of creepy but my how the power of suggestion can mess with the brain.

Actually, I think the filmmakers were on a lot of Jack Daniels when they made the movie.

I actually liked the movie a lot more than the 1979 version of Amityville. The fact that they made Jodie into a real "person" in this movie was a plus in my mind. After seeing the red lightbulbs in the 1979 version, you can't really do much worse than that. Also liked that they gave some backstory to the house in this version with the story about Katchem. It was a new twist on an old story.
I agree with you about how the writers/staff of this movie took a lot of liberty with the story, but I'm sure that could be said about a lot of movies that are "based on true stories". Movies are made to entertain us, so therefore, I don't really care to nitpick at movies about how this is what really happened or how that shouldn't be there. I liked sitting back for the 80 some odd minutes and hearing an alternate version of the story.
