Y'know, I just really enjoyed this one. I completely understand where you're coming from, John, but this is one of those movies that reminds me of some of the old serials my dad introduced me to. They are completely out there and unrealistic, but seeing the characters so awed by everything going on, that gee-whiz discovery around every corner, is fun for me.
Funny note (at least for me): I got this from Half.com about a month ago for myself, not the type of thing my 2-year old goes for. She LOVES it! Cracks me up. You start the movie and from beginning to end she's shouting, "Atlantis!" or, "Kida!" Her favorite is when Rourke gets all blued up at the end after Milo gets him with the shard of glass. She shouts, "Open a mouf!" because he opens his mouth is so wide when he metamorphosizes.

I did find it pretty to look at. But like my reaction to Disney's "Treasure Planet," I didn't care for the story or characters very much. Oh, well.
Thanks for your feedback, too, Sean. I can assure you that you're not typing solely to yourself.

I enjoyed the movie, but when I returned it to the video store, I never thought once about purchasing it. Fun, but it lacked the charming nature I require for a repeat viewing. It's a shame, too, because I love the Atlantis myths.
