I think it's useless to argue about whether or not the movie is good or bad.

In the THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW set, the ad for AvP DVD has an "R" for its rating, whereas this site says PG-13. Was this a slip on Fox's part because all other A and P movies were R so they just assumed? Or is this site incorrect and this will be the R-rated version?

Also, I guess Predators like Widescreen since they get the foreground on the cover (while Aliens like Fullscreen since they get foreground on that cover). "WvF!"

The theatrical release of "A vs. P" was rated PG-13, and 20th Century Fox's press site lists only the PG-13 rated film coming out on DVD at this time. There is no telling if they will release an R-rated version in the future.

I am a life-long Alien fan, and I know for a fact that I am not alone. There are also many Predator fans. AVP is a clash of titans. However, the cover art for the DVD is the wrong choice--I have a large collection of DVD's, and I always buy Widescreen versions. Fullscreen is, simply put, 50% less picture than Widescreen. Widescreen is the full movie, the way it was meant to be seen. So why does the AVP cover art for the Widescreen version prominently feature the Predator, with the Alien barely visable? The Fullscreen version features the Alien only, with the Predator in the shadows. I realize this was done to be "fair" to both sides' fans, but many fans (both Alien and Predator), including me, only buy movies in Widescreen formats. I'll still buy AVP, but I won't be happy whenever I look at the cover and see my favorite creature obscured by my least favorite (in comparison). It should have been the Alien on one side and the Predator on the other, staring each other down, for both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions.

It would be nice if the cover can be flipped and give the fan the option to have what ever one you want on the front.

I always wished film companies would do that if they change the artwork to update "the look" of the film. This way the original artwork is on one side and the original on the other. I know certain films have done that I just wish more would do the same.

Again, my kind-hearted colleague couldn't make himself give a movie less than a "5" rating. You're a softie, John.

Apparently, my co-conspirator didn't have the opportunity to read my review of "Species III" last week.

Actually, I have a hard time seeing the world entirely in black and white. "AVP" is as far from the worst film in the world as it is from the best; hence, a 5.

John,

I dunno--at the end of the day, I think that it's probably more fun to watch naked girls ("Species III") rather than "AVP". ;)

Well, the good thing is, John's review just makes me realize how much I DO NOT want to see this movie. ;)

The Metreon is just another big theater complex to me. It contains some IMAX theaters, true, but the screen "AVP" was showing on was a conventional size. Shops, restaurants, arcades, the usual. It's nice, but nothing that special.

Eddie was up visiting my wife and me in Martinez, about a half an hour east of San Francisco. We just thought the Metreon and the City would be fun.

It's interesting to me that people are quibbling over which version (standard/widescreen) has which monster on the front. I would think that the quibbling should begin with how uninspired the movie was rather than the packaging of said uninspired movie.

I had Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robot battles that had more depth than this movie.

Sean (but then again... that red robot always was a hothead..)

Well, the cover picture on it looks identical to the cover picture on the keep case (see right), and the back cover contains the same information as on the back of the keep case, although with slightly different graphics. The slipcover is cardboard, with the "AVP" and title embossed, raised slightly, and in a shiny metallac finish.

I've never understood the purpose of a slipcover if it's almost identical to the keep case. Is it supposed to protect the keep case? That seems silly to me because keep cases can so easily be replaced if scratched or otherwise damaged. The slipcover concept is fine if its contents would otherwise come apart, but slipped over a keep case? I think it's purely a prestige thing. But it's also an inconvenience, and I have always removed them permanently when they merely cover a virtually identical keep case.

I think the slip cover is just a way to make it more difficult for people to steal the discs from stores or whatever. I guess those pain in the butt stickers arent good enough.

How would that work? The slipcover fits tightly over the keep case, so the whole package is virtually the same size.

"...and, mr.puccio, what's so great about 2 audio tracks?" --dvd magic

Don't look at me. I didn't say it was great. I just said it had DD 5.1 and room left over, even with a high bit rate, for DTS 5.1.

dvd magic,

When you referred to "audio tracks" I didn't realize you were speaking of audio commentaries. But, yes, I was being sarcastic.

dvd_magic is the infamous DVDTown member geeky_guy/ really_geeky_guy/uber_geeky_guy.

For those who don't know, he often resorts to personal attacks and shows a strange fixation to mr. John J. Puccio from past comments. Not to mention racist (eddie can attest to this)

Chin,

What's amazing is that he claims to be a Cantonese speaker yet keeps on making disparaging remarks about Chinese people. Unless he loathes himself, I don't know why he thinks that his comments constitute acceptable behavior.

Maybe Henning can block his IP or something, if it's not been done already. If I recall correctly, this is the 5th time or something that he's re-registered and he doesn't bring much to the community - thus, bannination*!

Beats me, but he sure is <del>the very definition of forum troll, and a piece of shi</del> annoying.

Not much of an easter egg to look at on the DVD, which is just only one easter egg on it. At the FBI Warning/Attention screen, enter 1 for the Alien sacrificial chamber or 2 for the Predator's wrist computer. ;)

I KNEW IT!
I had problems with this movie being too short and not violent enough and I held off buying it. But on Nov. 22, an unrated longer 2-disc edition is coming out! The new version runs 115 min. but the theatrical cut is also included.
See thedigitalbits.com for details!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Yes, but does this one have the "supposed" gore that Paul W.S. Anderson has claimed on seperate occasions to exist and on other occasions said it never happened? 15 minutes is somewhat substantial for a film that is only 100 minutes, with almost no plot or characterization, but I don't know if I'll buy it. Maybe if it's super cheap and has some really kawazy stuff in it... like a different film, then maybe I'll buy it.
