FINALLY!!! Americas greatest trilogy, (besides the Godfather,) is finally coming to DVD. I grew up w/ these movies, I even listed my name as Marty McFly at my Kindergarten registration. I also went out and tore off the handles on my scooter and made it a scateboard just like Mikey J. did. Wow, Im so excited!! I cant wait. Plus, w/ the terrific bonus material added to the discs, this package should turn out to be one of the best for any collection. This Deember, whatever you do, please remember to pick this package up, you definitely will not be disappointed.

OUTSTANDING !!! I own both the region 1 and region 2 sets, and can confirm, without any doubt, that region 1 has got the best set by far. The lack of DTS on the region 1 set is NO big deal. It is the extra, extras that give region 1 the upper-hand hand (isnt that always the case ?). The Q&A sessions, extra featurettes and audio commentaries, and the overall presentation make the "extra" purchse, for me, worth the "extra" bucks. I have always loved these movies, they are perfect examples of fun escapist cinema. I would rate part 2 as the best of the lot, followed by parts 1 and 3, in that order.
I believe this is a region 1 site, therefore I shall focus on that set.
Alot has been made of the picture quality and "misframing" of parts 2 and 3 (Part 1 is correctly framed). All I have to add to this is that it did not affect my enjoyment of those chapters. The "misframing" is unnoticable, unless you know exactly what you are looking for. In any case, I believe, it only lasts for a few minutes in each film. Universal has announced that it will provide replacements in Feb 2003, for those who want them, but in my eyes this will not redeem them.
Overall the picture quality is excellent for all 3 films, particularly when you consider their age. The colours are vibrant, the picture crisp, and you WILL see details you never noticed before. Briefly, the DD5.1 sound is well above average. It does seem a little mutted in places, particularly in Part 1, but once the fun starts the speakers get a good workout.
Ultimately, the BTTF trilogy has never looked or sounded this good.
The huge bundle of extras perfectly compliment each installment. The Q&A sessions are funny and informative. The commentaries are somewhat dry, but informative nonetheless. The featurettes, although repetative in places, are relevant and will give you a sense of nostalgia.
Well, as you can tell, I loved this set. But there are negatives, not many, but some. Firstly, just knowing the framing is incorrect gives you an uneasy feeling, but if you are like me, then this will not affect you that much. Secendly, and more importantly, the MJF conversation track is a big dissapointment. It barely lasts 10 minutes in total !!! I thought it was going to cover the whole of Part 1 ? As it is, although it was a neat idea, it has proven to be a lost opportunity. Not alot is said about the films themselves. Specifically, I would give this feature 3 out of 10.
Now, if you have previously seen these films, you know what you are missing, so make like a tree and get it. If you havnt seen these films previously, then get a life and experince the fourth greatest trilogy of all time. The other three being star wars, indy and godfather, yep its in the same league.

I recall seeing Back To The Future: Part II in the theater and being extremely disappointed. Now, having the luxury of watching all three films together, I find myself enjoying the second installment more and more. I guess this is just the burden "bridge" movies must bear.
A highly imaginative and amiable adventure, the Back To The Future Trilogy is a welcome addition to my shelf that will find itself well-used in the years to come.
Sean (...and if it wears out, I'll just just hop in the old Delorean and pick me a up new one!...)

Today i saw a new release in DVD Region 4 of Back To The Future Trilogy, but it includes 4 discs (not 3) and apparently they took the same 3 discs from the previous release, and added a new extra disc of extra material never seen before...
The Cover Art is very silimar to the one ilustrated here (blue box with the silver logo) but instead of showing the characters in the corner, it shows the Delorean from its left side, speeding to make the jump... is this an exclusive release, or a Region 1 release in in the works?
