the F word or it's derivitives are used 147 times in the movie. HILARIOUS

Now, would that be 147 times in the original theatrical release or in the DVD's "Badder Santa" version? (It's questions like these that make serious cinematic research so fascinating.)

John:

is this funny in a way that Home Alone is funny, or is this Wayne??s World-funny? Because the latter is lost on me.

It's outrageous, raunchy funny, like neither of the two movies you mention. It might be a rental for you, Sasha, not a buy. And if you're easily offended, forget it entirely.

It is certainly NOT a traditional comedy. It runs a lot on the premises that foul language is funny when it's used in the extreme, that someone who violates social norms because of extreme apathy and alcoholism is funny.

The movie has its moments when it made me darn-near pee my pants from laughing. But those moments were few and far between.

The problem, I think, was that the Zwigoff wasn't quite sure what he was trying to make, a satire, a comedy, or a dark comedy. He gets pieces of all three, but they are muddled together. When it hits, it hits hard, but it's not for everyone.

I agree with justin_cleveland 100%. It seems the movie didn't know what it wanted to be. There were some very funny parts, but there were also alot of gaps of silence for me. The F word, constantly drinking shtick of Willie got old for me REALLY quick. It no longer became funny. This film was good for about 4 or 5 good laughs, but I wish I had rented instead of a blind buy.
