Definitely darker than the first installment of Burton's update to this iconic character, Returns offers up two villains for the first time. While interesting on some levels, this leads to a lack of focus on the title character that echoes the failings of the first film.

Again, production design is fantastic, but this one feels more like it was filmed on a soundstage (as it was) than the first film. The world of Gotham seems more confined and claustrophobic than ever before. This may have been the intent, but for me it makes Batman's world a bit too small.

Second only to the original, Batman Returns is full of Burton's twisted whimsy and deserves a viewing. But as with the others in this series, hold off on that purchase as new special editions are rumored to be in the pipeline...

Sean (...man, Halle Berry really looked different in '92 when she first put on the Catwoman costume...)

Does that mean they'll just be useless promotions of that film? (like the special features being only about how Batman the series came to be what it is and boring junk like that)
