The DP for the show was in the Future Shop I worked at last year, buying some new Home Theatre equipment and I got many people in our store hooked on the show and we even had the mini-series playing in the speaker room of the store on a nice big TV.

Anyway, he said the show is shot in HD, both the first and second seasons have been filmed digitally, as opposed to the miniseries which was shot on film.

I also believe that in some of the early Season 1 episode commentaries the producers and creators of this new re-imagining discuss the pros and cons to the format.

Also, in regards to its accesibility, my Mom, who had never seen an episode, ended up watching part of the second half of season one with me while I was helping her clean light fixtures, along with the season one finale, and she later watched the third or fourth episode of season two and aside for a few minor questions, was able to keep up with what was going on and really enjoyed the drama that the characters face including the acting as well as the gritty reality of the show. She's pushing 60 and plans on watching it weekly when it premiers again this month. The other day as well, I was taking down our holiday decorations and her friend, who is staying with us, watched a good chunk of the miniseries which I had put on during my de-decorating. She also really enjoyed what she saw and had no problem getting into it.

The nice thing about the show is that they do put effort into recapping where the show is at the beginning of the episode. No doubt, the viewer who has watched the show from the mini-series thru to now will find it more enjoyable, but I think the show is still accessible and not hard to get into at all.

this is horrible...you guys don't mention the fact that universal is charging a full-season price for only half a season. :.(

When I watched my first episode, the second season finale, the people I watched it with were filling me in on everything I missed, so it may have just been my perspective. I felt completely overwhelmed by everything that had come before.

Thanks for the insider info on how the show was shot!

I just got through the miniseries last night and and frankly, this show is indeed what it is cracked up to be.

Eddie, there is a $10 off coupon when you buy 2.0 and Serenity together.

Universal priced the new season 2.0 set at about the same level as the season one set, which wasn't much longer. The main difference between season one and 2.0 would be the inclusion of the miniseriesin the season one set.

But two nice bonuses to them releasing it now:

1. Don't have to wait till mid to late 2006 to get new BSG on DVD.

2. They'd then have the excuse to charge even more for a 20 episode box set.

But some cons:

1. You can't even get it in Canada actually, I live in Vancouver and season 2.0 hasn't aired in Canada or the UK yet, it starts airing this month. So I have to get my weekly fix online and then I ordered my season 2.0 set from amazon.com and got it the day it was released.

2. Not putting the podcasts on the last two episodes was a bit of a let down. They were recorded back in September, and I have a hard time believing that they couldn't time things so that they could have been included in the set. It seems that this set was announced around that time anyway. In the podcasts Ron D. Moore even said that they were doing an extended cut of the last episode, which we now know won't see the light until the second season 2 set comes out later this year.

3. Missing production features / video blogs. I'm fine with the video blog / production features not being on this set, I'm sure we'll see them all on the second set for Season 2.0 later this year. But Universal didnt' include all the season one features that were all available online. I hope they don't make the same mistake with the next set - DVD is a great way to archive all the neat things they have been putting online.

$10 isn't much. The system takes $5 off from each item - S1 or S2 and Serenity. If you see, Universal priced same as Deep Space or TNG. For 10 episodes, $50 retail is too much. DS/TNG had 26 episodes and retails for $130.

When the other half going to be released on the DVD?

hock,

yes, you get $10 off if you spend even MORE money. good deal, i say.

plus, what does "battlestar galactica" have to do with "firefly"??? it's possible to be a fan of one but not the other.
