Hi Dean,

Great review! I have the zone 3 edition, living in Seoul, South Korea, and am very tempted indead to fork out the cash and get my hands on this tasty morsel!!

BHD has received some mixed reviews in terms of plot and character development (http://dvdtimes.co.uk/) but I would posit that the movie is not trying to make a statement about politics (other than showing how little it actually means to soldiers on the ground) or nationalism or patriotism, but rather about something more fundamental, courage, honour and friendship!

I am not an American, and frankly have some dire reservations regarding America's foreign policies under the Bush Administration, but to critique BHD as a political endeavour to foster American nationalism in the wake of 9/11 is missing the point of the film altogether.

I concur with your ratings of the sound, video and film value but will have to reserve judgement on the extras until i get my hands on this Deluxe beauty!

"but to critique BHD as a political endeavour to foster American nationalism in the wake of 9/11 is missing the point of the film altogether." And that would be an especially rediculous assessment because the film was in production long before 9/11. Much like "We Were Soldiers" this film was in production long before the event, their release was just coincidence. Furthermore, it's an account of something that really happened, not complete fiction like the morale-boosters of the first half of the 20th century.
