The reviewers are incorrect with the statement "...I know that the Blu-ray disc outsold the HD-DVD disc by a 2-1 margin in its first week. Sadly, this is only because of the installed base of players."
From my perspective it is because the HD-DVD version is a costlier "combo" disc. I hate combo discs. I will never buy a combo disc, and there are probably many HD DVD player owners who feel the same way.
I'm curious as to how many people out there are actually "futureproofing" their DVD collections this way.
Universal's done the right thing rereleasing "Army of Darkness" on an HD DVD-only disc, and one day I'll probably be able to enjoy some of the other great titles out there, but until then, as much as I was looking forward to watching "300" I'll have to continue to wait.
The studios should add to their statistics the number of people who feel this way, as no matter how anticipated the film may be, they can always count on a "-1" in sales from me when they release the film as a combo disc. If they really make it up with a "Ư" by non-HD futureproofers, then more power to them...I'm just saying, is all.
