chris,
the surprise is that when you watch this movie, you'll give it a 10.

I already saw it in the theaters, man. I'm a fuckin' pro, remember?

As I said in the review, it's the kind of sentimental movie that will drive critics nuts. Fortunately, I don't care what other critics think, only what I think about a film and how I react to it. And being a sentimentalist at heart, I like a movie with heart. Like this one.

chris,
then you're a sucker, for you paid money to see the movie while john got it for free. maybe the "free" part helped john like it.

Eddie,
Good point, except that I, too, first paid to see the film. My movie buddy (also a retired schoolteacher) and I went to see it in a theater, and we both enjoyed it. I tell ya, it's not a film for the hardened "professional" critic, just for ordinary guys like me.

john,
you must've just closed your eyes and let morgan freeman's rich voice wash over you, then.

That is part of the magic.

This movie is proof that hollywood can throw big money at getting the best actors and still turn out something unmemorable and mediocre. They not only missed the "mark", but missed the chance at providing the public a genuinely cathartic experience. Good premise to be sure, but even the actors involved couldn't save the script or direction.
Jumping out of planes and racing cars? Gimmie a f**king break. *puke*
Nothing could save this mess, and I'm surprised the actors involved agreed to act in it after reading the script. I know a little bit about people who come to the realisation that they will soon die, and believe me, this isn't it - nor does it affect one emotionally for these two to unrealistically escape into some sort of narcassitic adventurism to engage in extreme sports upon reaching their "acceptance stage". I want my the life back I spent watching this before I myself die.

I just saw this and I agree with John's 7. I liked it, and thought it was really good, although it probably could have been better. It did drag in a few places and I thought the list could have been a tad more exciting, but otherwise it was well done.
And Skyhawk, I too know a little something about people coming to the realization that death is at their door and I really have to disagree with you. I'm actually surprised that you would even say something like that to tell you the truth.
