Finally! A spy with a brain, not just a suave facade and gadgets to resort to when he is unable to employ his sex appeal.
The Bourne Identity is a great take on the spy genre. It expertly keeps Bourne's past at arm's length until Bourne himself gets each revelation as to who he was, the audience learning more about him only when the character is likewise enlightened. As a result, we get the joy of becoming as involved in every discovery as Bourne does.
Is the ending of The Bourne Identity the slam-bang actionfest that we have been so conditioned to expect from Bond and all of his carbon copies? No, but the ultimate goal for Bourne is not to save the world but simply to find out enough to survive the world he is in.
Unlike Bond, Bourne's world feels real. I can relate to it. No megalomaniacal madman trying to take over civilization, just a CIA bigwig trying to keep his job and product in check. I don't know about you, but I have more practice keeping my boss happy than I do stopping world domination.
Ultimately the beauty of the movie is that Limon and Damon have crafted a character that has the audience asking, "Who in the world wouldn't want to be Jason Bourne," while at the same time questioning, "Who in his right mind would want to be Jason Bourne?"
Definitely recommended.
Sean (...of course, take that recommendation at your own risk...)

Bring on supremacy!
I agree, as much as I like bond movies and the over the top atmosphere, it's great to have something like Bourne to pull you back into the world of logic.
I think Identity has one of the best car chases ever.
