It's really fun discussing movies like this and The Sting with my dad. Since buying both Butch and Sting, my dad has talked about how much he enjoyed them when they came out in theater and seeing them today brought back some good memories.

It's much like watching movies with my mother, and hearing her experiences or feelings upon first viewing the film so long ago. Unfortunately she never saw Star Wars, so I can't talk to her about that, but my dad went to see it 23 times in the theatre (he even saw it when it was still titled simply Star Wars), so I guess it balances. But yes, films are one of few mediums that actually help to bridge the gap between generations (books are similar, but to a lesser degree I think, films are more mainstream, and the emotion is quick and stays with you like the image does)
