This is by far, one of my all time favorite movies. it captures the ambiance of old Vegas, and when the mob truly owned that stretch of land. it was before it all became high strung and main stream. way before it became all disneyesque and family oriented. its where crooks can get a new start. a place where if you crossed someone you would be lead to the sand dunes and never seen again. a roll of the dice would make you into someone. and a pair of loaded dice would make someone take you out. Martin captures that feel in this epic of a tale.

Hopefully they do a better job on improving the video than with Heat. Though, Heat's transfer the first time around was no slacker. At least we won't be flipping anymore!

Actually, "MatDOS!!!", the original Casino DVD was a one-sided disk as well. It just had no special features, except for the trailer.

Martin Scorsese's CASINO (1995) is one of the great director's very great films, joining the ranks of such masterworks as TAXI DRIVER (1976), RAGING BULL (1980), AFTER HOURS (1985), THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST (1988), GOODFELLAS (1990-his best film), BRINGING OUT THE DEAD (1999), GANGS OF NEW YORK (2002), MEAN STREETS (1973), ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE (1974) and THE AVIATOR (2004). That being said:

I'm not quite sure what the HELL you guys were watching, but the REGION 1, DUAL LAYER, ONE-SIDED DISC of the film I bought (labeled "WIDESCREEN") contained a theatrical trailer and a perfectly good anamorphic 2:35:1 Widescreen Transfer presenting the film WELL. I have looked forward to more extras from behind the scenes and this new edition will be worth it. It sounds like many stories and (possibly) set footage will be included. Now this can join the lovely editions of my other Scorsese collection entries. Deleted Scenes? At 179 minutes, it's hard for me to imagine Scorsese making an even LONGER film, but I look forward to it nevertheless. (I DO LOVE LONG MOVIES!)...There is PLENTY of material in the book that probably didn't make the damn near 3-HOUR theatrical release cut of the film...

I only wish there were COMMENTARY by the Director or key players...

Yeah, must have confused the two of them as well.

But anyways, the video transfer has indeed been cleaned up. Hooray.
