Fine review, Eddie. This just goes to prove that I was right when I said that certain movies are better off being reviewed by certain experts. You have the ethnic background, so you can point out things that the rest of us would miss. Just like Tim, being the father of small kids could review Disney better; just like John, being a mature critic and a Film professor is perfect for reviewing classics. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly -- yes. Dude, Where Is My Car? -- nah.
Am I right, or am I right?

it's tough to say, sasha. my background knowledge of chinese history/philosophy/art may have "helped", but in talks with john over the phone back when the film was first released on dvd, i got the feeling that he could've written a great review of the film, too.
i don't think that parents are necessarily the best reviewers when it comes to "children's" movies. for example, with disney, there is a lot of animation history. i would think that an expert on animation would do an overall better job than someone who watches disney movies simply because that's what their kids watch. the same could be said for "harry potter". some parents might like the movies more than they would had they not had kids simply because watching the "hp" movies with kids can be more "magical" than watching it with adults. however, on the other hand, the "hp" books and movies have numerous allusions/references that a scholar would notice (but again, not necessarily a parent).
everything is a careful balancing act. :)
