So when does the version come out with a commentary from christopher nolan and everything else they are leaving out? Maybe they will release the ultimate edition a week before the third one comes out. Maybe they will be generous and throw in a free ticket for when we all buy the better version.

the first one didn't/doesn't have an audio commentary, so maybe nolan is forgoing commentaries these days.

Doubtful. The regular and 2-disc DVD versions of Batman Begins came out on the same day, followed by the HD DVD and BD sets. Warner isn't UE'ing these movies right now. In the future, they may. But not now.

And I'm with Eddie on the commentary. What other "good stuff" is WB leaving out?

But you see my point. This is just the first version on Blu-Ray (if it isn't they are fools because they know we will all buy it again when it has more special features) they will re-release it when the next one comes out. I see them doing the same with Iron man and the Hulk. They will throw in some movie ticket to make you feel better about buying the same movie you already have. I had hoped that because Blu-Ray is more expensive then DVD that maybe just maybe they wouldn't double dip. Clearly I had my head in the clouds. Seeing the re-release of Casino Royale and I am legend both of which I bought when they first came out. What a mistake I made (if your going for the special features that is).

I don't care to double-dip just because a later release includes more bonus features. And you should double-check to make sure the 2nd edition doesn't drop previously included bonuses(!). For instance, the original R-Rated DVD of "Wild Things" has a nice commentary track by director John McNaughton, whereas the later unrated version (on both the DVD & Blu-ray) have EXCLUDED it. This happens all the time.

However, I will sometimes choose to re-buy a movie if a different version (longer, etc) is released, such as the summer Blu-ray of "Dark City". And I own the original "Casino Royale" BD release, but would pass on another edition until Sony decides to release the "uncut" version (more violent than the PGᆡ version). As of now, you can only get the uncut version in high-def from the Australian BD (region-free), and a few from other European countries. The only version the USA can buy is rated PGᆡ.

The various cuts are explained here (see bottom of page):

I think WB will wait some time, but will definitely double dip this at least in two years, with the extended cut (which I'm hoping for), and a real meaty making of documentary (that would come closer to The Beginning or the one from Hellboy, or LOTR)...
