Awesome review Chris ! I have been waiting for this release for a long time. I hate repeating myself -- it was fun reading your review. What in your opinion are the best movies by Godard? I am looking forward to the Fassbinder's magnum opus - "Eerlin Alexanderplatz". When will you have the review ?

Ranjan,

Good to see you around.

I haven't started Berlin Alexanderplatz yet and that's 960 min&#43 features. I have no idea when that one will be ready. Not by street date, I guarantee.

Best Godard movies? Ask me again next week, and I'll have a different list. More than any other great director, my opinion of his best work changes constantly.

My favorites are probably:

Weekend
Contempt
Alphaville
Germany Year 90 Nine Zero
Pierrot le fou
Breathless
Vivre sa vie
King Lear
Bande a part
Hail Mary (maybe his most underrated)
One plus One
Numero Deux
Notre musique
Masculin feminin
Detective

this is an over-rated movie.

Got two episodes of "Berlin" down. Only, um, a lot to go.

Fassbinder shot the entire 16 hour film in 150 days. It's hard to believe he could focus on one project for so long.

He usually spent 15-20 days shooting a feature length film, sometimes less than 10.

Would any other director be able to crank out a 16 hour film in 150 days? Other than porn, I mean.

I watched this movie over the weekend. I was impressed but my wife was offended by it. Michel's character was purely irritating and his female slurs didn't help the matters. Constantly throwing gender biased slur did turn me off to some extent. However, I know he is just a character probably a prick that is potraited in the movie. Who know maybe Godard is a prick in real life too.
