Im sure Mr. Puccio was pretty excited to have such an inciteful and observant opening about the drab outfits worn in Reign of Fire. Apparently so excited that he left his brain at the door (so to speak) because he certainly wasnt using it. If he had, the overwhelmingly obvious point would have hit him that people hounded by flying dragons will probably want to blend into the landscape. When the landscape is grey and ashy, the clothes are going to be similar. Rather than demonstrating Reign of Fires adherence to a "cinematic tradition", it demonstrates the internal logic of the film. An internal logic that Mr. Puccio missed and obviously doesnt have.

Unfortunately, the rest of the review is equally flawed, but unlike Mr. Puccio, Im not going to bore you with the details of my opinion. Perhaps if Mr. Puccio spent more time watching the films than coming up with problematic commentary, his reviews wouldnt be as terrible.

I am glad you liked the film, Mr. Bastard. That is why films are made. And I am glad you found some internal logic in it that I did not find. But we cannot all like the same films or we would all be clones of one another. On this film we simply disagree.

My remarks about the dark clothing were meant as a gentle tease. (I mean, these people wear their camouflage outfits underground, too, where they spend the majority of their time?) And the clothing remarks were aimed not only at this film but at all prior postapocalyptic films, none of which, to my knowledge, involved anyone trying to blend into the landscape to avoid fire-breathing dragons.

Also, in the DVDTown rating system the 5/10 score I gave the movie means I think it is average, ordinary. I did not hate the film; I merely thought it was a missed opportunity to do something cinematically different and more challenging.

I am sorry my opinions made you respond so angrily, but I can understand your frustrations in finding my comments so contrary to your own. I hope you see them as simply opinions, however, not statements of revealed truth.

Guilty Pleasure Alert!

I like this one.

Is it great? No. Is it fun? Yes, at least for me it is. I wasn't expecting an all-out dragonfest, so maybe that's part of why it appeals to me, but I greatly enjoyed some of the mythology attributed to dragons (extinguishing the dinosaurs, causing the Ice Age).

This is one I will return to over the years. Definitely worth my discount purchase.

Sean (if you discount a discount, does that discount no longer mean anything to you?...)
