Nice review, Justin. It's strange, but I just watched this version of the film about a week before your review. I also felt the added scenes gave away too much. However, it kind of doesn't matter after you've seen the movie once. And you're right about the picture quality, simply beautiful.
I think my only issues with the film is the villains seem somewhat fake and they never really made me feel like there was a sense of pure threat. The acting was a bit wooden and stiff at times, but for this film it seemed to work well. Overall, it is a tastey little sci-fi treat that was delightfully entertaining.
