Vampyr: The Criterion Collection (DVD)

I've only ever seen the relatively cruddy previous DVD release of this film. I've been excited for this film, but I've heard it rumored that in the original foreign release, the intertitles placed during the characters reading the book were placed over the dialogue for American viewers or something (I can't quite remember the "why" that they claimed). Still, they said that the 'original' cut with the character's dialogue would be restored for this release, making the scenes different.

If you've seen the older release, and know what I'm talking about it, is there any truth to those claims, is this film any different during the "reading" sequences?
