I was entertained when I watched it (free ticket), but it is instantly forgettable.

I think Evans made the movie watchable, without him I probably would of thought a lot less of this movie.

Fifty years ago? Holy cow, John, all comic book heroes did back then was tell kids to buy war bonds.

"the only thing clever being a Wolverine insert. "
do you mean wolverine is in a deleted scene? Sorry for not understanding:P

anywho, the best thing about this mediocre flick was the tension between The Thing and Johnny, funny stuff thanks to funny actors;)

I do believe this is the first, and last, time Steinbeck has been mentioned in connection with this film.

I really wanted this movie to be good. Unfortunately it seems like movie makers are starting to take Super-Heroes for granted and not putting the time and effort into the story, figuring that people will pay to see the bright colors. It's the same mentality that killed the videogame licensing industry a few years back.

I for one enjoyed it greatly. I'm a fan of Fantastic 4, and Marvel comics in general. I know a lot of people were disappointed with Daredevil, Elektra, DOOM, and various other movies based off Comic books, or video games. I feel people who are fans of a particular series of comics, or video game are usualy going to like the movies.

Heck I even like the old Super Mario Bros. movie they made back in the day, and I know A lot of people didn't like that. Though it certainly was the cause for video game movies to have a bad rap. 8)

Yes, Wolverine appears for an instant in a deleted scene.

I hated this movie with a passion. It felt like a made for TV movie rather than a theatrical release to me. Maybe I'm just too old for this MTV style presentation (I'm 21 by the way).

Off the top of my head we have Spiderman 3, X-men 3, the 2nd of the new Batman movies all coming sooner than later. I don't think your wish will come true on this one anytime soon.

Now about Fantastic 4, how long until there is a Director's Cut? I have not seen this movie and am wondering if a little added footage might make it better? Kinda how the DareDevil DC improved the film.

Yes, I liked the Director's Cut of "Daredevil" far better than the theatrical version, too; however, the added footage did little to help "AVP: Alien Vs. Predator" or "Elektra," so it may be a toss-up what we get with a Director's Cut of "Fantastic Four." And I have no doubt a Director's Cut will come along, although it hasn't been announced.

Like Ben, I too saw this for free, so maybe that taints my reaction some. Got a free ticket from the I, Robot SE.

In any case, I'd say the biggest flaws were similar to those of EP III. Though they are very different films, both underplayed their main characters and lacked effective character motivation, specifically for the villains.

The role I felt would be most grating (Johnny Storm) turned out to be more palatable than I thought it would be. Reed Richards on the other hand barely seemed like a breathing human being. John, I certainly agree that the best characer is Ben Grimm, Chiklis' performance overshadowing that of any other actor in the film.

My biggest complaint with the film is the utter lack of tension. While the 4 were "mutated," nothing felt necessarily grave or dire about their situation. And the rise of Dr. Doom had no heft to it, leaving the final showdown hollow. It almost felt like the picked-on kid overcoming the bully at recess. However, there was no build-up, just events following one another in succession.

Worth buying? Dunno. It's a loud piece of eye candy. If that's your gig, pick it up. For me, a free trip to the movie theater offset most of my qualms.

Sean ('course I don't know what "qualms" means so...)

Once I learned that they had decided to turn Sue Storm from the Marvel Universe's doyenne into a teenage skank, I knew they didn't have a clue what the comic book was about. Or, rather, that they just didn't care.

I think Doom in general was a major let down. In the comics he's one of the best villains out there, but here he felt completely by the numbers. Wasted.

Ben,

That's where I was going. The villain had little to no motivation except that he was an ass. Being a jerk isn't enough to equate a person with world domination.

Sean (now being a used car salesman, that's a different story...) ;)
