This is one of those that sticks with the guys. Does my wife get it? No. Should she? If so, I better start watching Steel Magnolias. Daily.
An awesome movie just for the guys. Even though it is a "sports" movie, showcasing baseball and the great lengths a lot of guys go to in following the game and their heroes, what really registers is the quest that Roy is on: to understand his father. To find that relationship he never had. To heal a wound that is all but unhealable due to an untraversable separation. Fathers and sons movies are often a home run for me, and this is no exception.
Is there baseball? Sure, great. But it's the real theme of getting to know your old man that rings true for me and, I would wager, most all of us.
