Outstanding and honest review ! I am looking forward to this movie next week. John did you notice that BD is bit brighter. I noticed the screenshots on dvdbeaver for the BD. Some shots are better in SD.

I noticed that the older DVD transfers are much lighter and themselves sometimes brighter than the new Coppola Restoration transfers. Coppola himself in one of the new featurettes says that cinematographer Gordon Willis's photography was meant to be very dark, with deep, deep blacks. That's the way the new transfers look to me (at least in "Parts I and II").

Another great review...I guess it was time these movies received a well deserved restoration...now, where's Lawrence's restoration??

I rented The Godfather (Coppolla Restoration of course) on bluray last night and watched the first half hour or so. It does look better but barely better than most DVD's. I realize the film is old and such but somehow I was hoping for more. I'd give it a 6.5/10 on HD video scale.

Still it's nice to see this classic looking better than ever.
