I'm a huge fan, and I can forgive a lot out of love and loyalty. But my loyalty is to HP, not Big Daddy WB. No commentary means more money for my gas and food fund.

i'd imagine that commentaries would be rather worthless. except for columbus on the first two movies, none of the directors are familiar with handling big-budget special-effects movies, so they'd mostly talk about how someone else took care of the set pieces.
directors columbus, cuaron, newell, and yates: "this cast and crew were great. the screenwriter was awesome. j.k. rowling is the best."
the screenwriters: "i had a hard time cutting down a really long book into a two-hour movie. thankfully, j.k. rowling gave me a lot of help. she wrote great books."
the cast: "so-and-so was fantastic! we had a blast. the costumes and make-up were amazing. i was really scared when i saw ralph fiennes as voldemort. so-and-so was very sweet and nice to me."
these comments are already found in the interviews and featurettes that the two-disc special editions carry.

I totally agree with this review. It's exactly what I said... as a stand-alone, it does not work. As a bridge between Goblet and Half-Blood, it will fit in nicely.
I truly wish that Warner Brothers had taken the "Three/Four Musketeers" or "Kill Bill" approach to these films. These books that were Thick (Goblet onward) should have been filmed as a single four (4) film and edited into two films, released six months apart. It have preserved more of the story and given WB twice as much income (a single longer film is cheaper to make than two films, so their budget would have only been about 50% more, but their income would have been doubled). Heck, Narnia sprawled forever...
