Good review of a classic, I thought Warner's transfer was good as well but the sound was a bit lacking especially the boom boom boom and knocking noises sequences during the hauntings sounded pretty tinny unfortunately. Btw, Richard Johnson was prominently featured in the commentary track, though you said you missed him. ??? He was delightful to listen to with that rich voice of his sharing anecdotes etc from the film and about himself. The DVD commentary has Julie Harris (sounds like hers was from a separate interview I recall), Claire Bloom, Johnson, Russ Tamblyn, Robert Wise and screenwriter Nelson Gidding. Really nice and informative overall commentary track I thought.

catscratch,

Thanks for catching the error. I mean, Richard Johnson's name is listed on the disc case as one of the commentators, and I had even added his name to the release details myself. What I was thinking of when writing up the extras I cannot guess. Maybe I meant to say how much I missed him from major, feature filmmaking (although I understand he is still very much involved in the acting business). Oh, well...another mind fade.
