Question - Will this HD DVD be down converted to 960x540? I have component HD and to see this kind of deliberate poor service to existing customers is the epitomy of bad-will Refusing to take my money and not offering me HD DVD?( Lose the paranoia and support your customer base and biggest advocates & supporters.



I *genuinely* hope the studios will consider their avid fans and insure those with original component outputs get full HD DVD quality

As of January, WB was arguing for the use of the copy-protection scheme that requires digital connections. So far, the studio has not announced if its first HD discs will or will not use the copy protection. By forcing down-conversion for analogue connections, they reduce their potential initial market, but they may figure the protection they derive from it will be worth the trade off. It's a matter of wait and see.

So which cables would the dvd players be providing?

Both formats of high-definition players will have analogue component outputs and digital HDMI outputs. Pick your cables accordingly.

Here in the US, we are forced to use HDMI if we want to watch the movie in its full HD glory.



From what I've read, this is not the case in Japan, where there is a multi-year moratorium for people whose HDTVs only support analog component connectors. The Japanese can still watch their HD-DVD movies in HD using analog component video.



Obviously, the solution in Japan is more palatable to consumers. Here in the US, the next gen will be a hard sell.

It's obvious I am wrong on the sound formats but I thought HD-DVD & Blu-Ray both had deals to include regular Dolby Digital and DTS on all titles. Then from there the newer formats would be added at the studios discretion. Was such a deal ever in the works?
