Hellboy!
Wow, i loved this movie but i am really disappointed that the Director's Cut has been scheduled for release so soon after the 2 Disc SE. I ordered the 2 Disc SE just 2 days before this was officialy announced. Now I will 'have' to fork out the money for this edition as well.

Yeah, i heard about it Eddie. But i wan't sure about what the DC would include and how it would differ from the SE until after I had already ordered it. Bummer! But I can't wait to see the extended version.

By the way, I am also pretty keen on the polystone bust that comes with the giftset.

i dont think the giftset will be worth the extra 30 or 40 bucks. its just like the lotr: ee gift sets. they were alot more pricey, just for a statue. i dont find the same thrill in painted rocks, like some people, i guess
(i bought the 2 disc release, and loved the movie. i was planning on selling it to buy the DC, but now i hear there is a different commentary!!!??? the maddness!!! i will have 2 hellboys on my shelf. oh well, the movie's awesome anyway...)...

onijay,
A. this has about 20 minutes of extra footage from the movie, it is not the exact same movie as you claim. this edition also has a new commentary, and more special features.
B. i have noticed that you have been re-posting your comments, on different editions of DVD's. this is really annouying. you did it on this, and the hellboy giftset, and all of the resident evil releases.

To yellow jacket...
, please understand that I harbour no ill will towards Hellboy, or Columbia Tristar, it is a smart move they made. I also realize that there are extra features... like I stated in my post. One other thing, when I re-use my posts I make sure it is acurate with what is presented (I change the name of the edition, and special features accordingly), and I merely repost becuase it's the same damn item so who the hell cares? If you find it annoying, scroll down more. Sorry to sound like an ass, but I thought the point of the message boards was to discuss the movies. I put a lot of time into writing these messages, so why not re-use them on the same item?
P.S. I own the 2-disc Hellboy and intend to buy the 'DC Gift Set' so back off!

Onijay,
Calm yourself, this is how studios market their material. Once you understand it, you'll get used to having the patiance to wait for the better DVD to come out. I rearely ever buy the first release because I'm used to what the studios do. Some of them give you fair warning, such as LOTR SE & LOTR EE. It's best you stay connected with a site, such as ours, and we'll always give you pre-warning to other editions to come.
Anyway, I see you're new here and welcome you to the DVD town family. We appreciate your concerns and opinion, and trust me, I feel as you do at times about how studios handle their marketing. You just have to learn how to wait for the best thing because that's what studios do. They depend on us to buy the lame crap and then buy the cool version. Once you get the hang of this, you'll learn to just be calm and wait.

You guys are all blowing this out of context! I meant that as a joke! I stated that they released the 'full specks' after I had pre-ordered. I know companies do that all the time, and in fact I wait for it, such as Underworld, or Deep Impact (for which I have been WAITING for 3 years!). I used to use yahoo, they got their sources from DVD file, and they mentioned nothing of a DC. But still, stop taking this so hard. If I ever made a movie I would milk it for as much money as I could! And by the way, I have been buying DVD's since the format started, and the first DVD's hit the market: Batman, Blade Runner, Se7en (movie only ed.). So I would appreciate it if you didn't talk or treat me like a newborn, I know a lot about this format, not to brag, and I know what companies do, and I know what they don't. And if I have a problem with what they do or don't do... I'm gonna write it down at a message board!
P.S. thanks for the welcome, appreciate it.

Personally I found the first release more than sufficient. I don't see a need to upgrade.

does disc 3 have the theatrical cut of the film?

No, it does not include the theatrical cut of the film, however it does retain the cast commentary from the first DVD release via a video comentary with the film playing in a small box in the corner of the screen.

thanks, and great review!
are the individual disc cases normal size, or the "THINpak" cases used in many tv shows like "Ren and Stimpy"?
-matt (this was sooooo close to a perfect score...)

Is the movie presented in DD EX? Watching at the cinema last month (yes, it took that long to get to the UK), we noticed a lot of centre-surround activity.
Has it been encoded as such, or does it happily decode through matrix?

Are the extras same as the previous release or they are totally different?

Disc 2 is most likely the exact same where as Disc 3 is entirely new.

I really don't think the DC delivered; I was expecting 20 minutes of footage, then it turns out to be 13. I hardly noticed the 13 minutes, and the only worthwhile part was more of Liz. Ugh! Sorry, very depressed about this.

From my review:
"For the most part, the changes that are made to the Director???s Cut of ???Hellboy??? are transitional in nature, adding little to the narrative or the characters but enhancing the epic feel of the film."
Don't say you weren't warned!

This is a great special edition. Like a lit of people, i think the regular theatrical version of the movie and extras were realy good on the regular dvd movie, but this directors cut makes the film give it life.
