Tell the truth, Eddie.

You were itching to hate this before you watched a single minute of it. You seem to have an aversion to anything that is remotely popular.

Yes, this is not exactly a lavish production, but the performances and screenplay are brilliant. It's too bad for you that you probably only watched a half hour of this 12 hour production before issuing your premature lambasting.

This is one of the greatest television experiences I have had in my life. I highly recommend that any openminded person with an interest in the subject who is able to look past the studio trappings of this BBC production check out this marvelousseries. Eddie's review is completely off base. Perhaps I would be able to appreciate his review more if he actually watched the thing.

The sequel "I, Fenghis" is much better.

Kilgore,

I don't have an aversion to anything that's popular. From 2008, I like "Iron Man". "Iron Man" grossed more than $300 million in the U.S. and Canada. Are you telling me that "Iron Man" was not popular?

Kilgore,

Is it possible for you to have a difference of opinion with someone without attacking the other person for his differing views? In your third paragraph you present your argument for the series, which we appreciate. But you do nothing to refute Eddie's opinion except to disparage him personally. That's unfair and of no help to the readers of the site.

If this show was so damn popular then how come I never heard of it?

Tim,

Consider yourself blessed (at least until now).

"That's unfair and of no help to the readers of the site."

John

John, in this case that more aptly applies to Eddie than to Kilgore.

This is, without any shadow of a doubt, one of the worst "reviews" I've ever read on this site. Eddie, if you felt that way about the series without even seeing it, you should have passed it on to someone with the integrity to do it justice. If your position as a reviewer on this site is paid (I'm assuming it's not) then you should be fired.

i am neither the first nor the last reviewer to walk out of a movie theatre or to press the stop button on my remote control before a program has run its course. your collective energies would be better spent on an actual worthy cause rather than beating a dead horse.

Oh, I never considered you a reviewer or critic from a professional standpoint, Eddie, much less now. A fanboy, that's about it.

Wow, JSWELL, insulting Eddie above was so . . . "professional".

That "I, Claudius" "review" was the real insult.

Eddie,

At least you got people here to get passionate about a movie that isn't about a super-hero for a change. Who would have thought "I, Claudius" would have been the one to break the pattern?

well, the show is about a man who pretends to be a super-dummy.

Count me among the people who saw "I Claudius" when it first aired on TV, and among those who set their VCRs or tried to get friends to tape sessions when I was out of town. It featured brilliant performances and taut drama involving personal relationships and (shockingly) nudity, right there on PBS. But I tried to watch it again later with my wife, who's younger, and she couldn't get into it at all. The staginess and pacing drove her nuts. I can't help but wonder if too many Blackberries spoil this critical p-p-p-p-pie.
