Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD)

'Skull' was a pretty big disappointment. It had all been done before in the previous movies and more fun. It's a fine rainy day rental but as a must-see summer blockbuster, it was just a lame rehash. Too little too late. I'm over Indy.

It's a minor point, but in the review Jason states that the score is too subdued, as John Williams had done in Superman Returns, but Williams did not compose or conduct any music for Superman Returns. The music was composed and conducted by John Ottman, of X-men 2 and Fantastic Four fame. That's why it probably didn't sound like Williams, because he didn't do it. Williams is only credited as having done the Superman theme, which is used for the opening titles. I only mention this because you seem to be indicating a pattern Williams is taking with his new scores, when one of the examples is not applicable. Whether this is the case or not, for some reason I'm irked that John Williams is getting credited for an inferior score that he didn't produce, and that's the only reason I'm bothering to write this.

I knew that. I have almost all of the work done by John Ottman on my iPod, including "Superman Returns" and "X-Men" and "Fantastic Four" and so on. I'm going to change it in the review right now.

Sorry to be such a jerk, but it's in my nature. Although the first time I saw Superman Returns I too thought John Williams did the music (he is, after all, credited as having done the theme, and I somewhat ignored everything else that came after), but the moment when Superman lifts the rock into space the music clued me in that it was decidedly not him, so I had to go check it out. And now I live a sad, lonely life, spreading the word to all those who would listen: "T'was not that John!". Mine is a lonely existence, my world a prison. Who am I? I'm the Music-Man. [Cue Danny Elfman]

it's unfortunate, but the villain in this movie is not as exciting as the villains in the movie movies. cate blanchett waves a sword for a few minutes and then gets dissolved by the aliens. bleh.

Am I the only one who feels that Indy "grows" younger throughout the movie? In the beginning the looks old, but by the end, he looks younger...

As for the movie, a strong 7/10, or a weak 8/10, or for me, a 4/10. Like I said before, just listening to the music in the theatre with the trailer made excited, and when I finally watched this movie, I wasn't disappointed (having even seen all three movies before watching KOTCS)...yes, it's not as strong as Raiders, but there is no other movie like it, yet.

I actually enjoyed seeing it twice in the theatre...I can't get enough of "call it a rope!", or the majestic chasing scene in the jungle, or the 'nuke the fridge', or the Swinging Mutt, or the average Bond Villain, or the great motorcycle chase scene in college, or the actual investigative investigation...I'm 23, and this was the first time I saw Indy on the big screen, enough...
