i realised that there are 2 franchise collection DVD sets to be available. One of which is this, the other is the Mummy collection; can we expect reviews of these two sets?

Depends on whether or not Universal make the sets available to us for review.

My 2 cents worth,

With an exception for the last film, which i felt was a showcase of special effects, the first 2 films still retain the magic i felt when i first saw them.

Video

The film's video for the 3 films are the same transfers of the previous DVDs, with the quality of the first film being the worst.

JP 1 looked faded and JP 2 was more of the same, while JP3 was the only transfer that was passable.

All films maintain their orginal aspect ratio of 1.85.1.

Audio

JP1 & 2 have DD5.1 while JP3 has the option of DTS as well as DD. the audio tracks still pack a punch, the DTS slightly ahead. But it's a disappointing that DTS was not offered for the first 2 films.

Extras

They are the same as the original releases. Nothing new here other than the inclusion of the Trailers for JP2 & 3 in the JP1 disc.

The menu designs are the same as the colletor's edition.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The films are good, and are worth having in any collection, but this release is a simple rehash of the previously released collector's editions minus the DTS audio track.

if you want the films, get the individual collector's edtions, usually available from any Best buy bargain bin or something..... Skip this release!!!
