Have enjoyed it on HDDVD and yes it it one of my reference movies also on the format. Having both formats since just about the beggininig (XA1, XA2, Pioneer Elite 94 Bluray, PS3 - Since Day 1), it's interesting comparing the two. Although a mute point, I have never found a like movie on Bluray that looked better than the HDDVD version. Maybe this will finally be the first. As far as sound goes, the Bluray has always had just a bit more bunch due to the lack of bass output on the Toshiba's (I still don't know what that was all about). I will be renting this one and comparing. I don't see how it could possibly look better than the HDDVD version but I will hold judgement until then, and hopefully find that after 2 yrs, Bluray has finally caught up.

Most studios that have previously released movies on HD DVD are now releasing them on Blu-ray using the same video encodes and the same bit rates. Theoretically, the HD DVDs and Blu-rays should look the same. Occasonally, a studio like Paramount will issue a "Transformers" movie at a higher bit rate than on HD DVD, but it hasn't made much difference than anyone can tell.
The audio is different story, though. Often an HD DVD that had only a Dolby Digital Plus track will get the slight upgrade to Dolby TrueHD on Blu-ray. Sometimes you can hear a difference there.

keep in mind that this is the extended version, with a better audio codec. i personally have yet to find a movie on either format that surpasses this as far as image quality. (cartoons are exempt) regarding the flick itself, i am stunned that it is generally considered a flop almost along the same line as godzilla. i enjoyed this movie immensly and consider it to be one, if not the best of that year. i got the subs a-blazin, popcorn in hand, and a box of tissues. (just in case)... i'm ready.

Jackson's "King Kong" took in over half a billion dollars world-wide, so it wasn't a commercial flop, and Rotten Tomatoes reports that 83% of the world's critics praised it, so it wasn't a critical flop, either. It just gets bad press from a few highly vocal individuals.

That's eighty-three percent. Our text editor sometimes has trouble with percentage signs.
