An SE for this was long overdue, and worth the wait. This and Fright Night are the great 80's vampire films and rank high in all horror films. This film was groundbreaking in it's time for the makeup and effects, as well as portraying vampires as sexy and oddly romantic. The concept was taken even further in films like Interview With the Vampire and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Sure, the film is dated and very 80's but it doesn't matter. What a great combo of comedy and horror. Actually, there are quite a few subtle creepy/scary moments, like Kiefer's tear and the almost inaudible scream when Max lifts as head before he says, "just like one big happy family" (one of the best spots in the movie, by the way). Great performances by a young cast that is mostly still famous today. Man, I just love this movie, it really is one of my fave horror flicks of all time and easily ranks an 8 or 9 out of 10 with me. This new DVD is great, with some sweet special features including a retrospective doc. with interviews with Schumacher, Richard Donner, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim, Feldman, etc. There are some deleted scenes that didn't belong in the film but are fun to watch. I finally know why Haim was running from Patric near the beginning of the film. The multi-angle commentary with Feldman/Haim is pretty uninformative, though, but the rest of the features are great. I love watching outtakes and delted scenes on films like this, horror flicks and comedies like The Goonies. It's a pity that Schumacher had so many great films like this and Falling Down, The CLient, A Time to Kill, etc. until he did the Batman flicks. He would be one of my fave directors if not for those. Either way, this DVD rocks and I reccomend it to everyone. Now I'm just bracing myself for the Christine SE (coming in Oct.) and HOPING for a Fright Night SE...
