I have been watching this series on DVD. I am in minority to admit that I find this show to be just ok. For this is nothing but a scripted survivor show. There are so many things that are really irritating about the show -

*********POSSIBLE SPOILERS*********************
1. Sayid meets the French woman. After he gets back to the camp, no one seems to be interested in pursuing the woman. Infact characters never talk about it. How in the world u are not interested in finding other people on this island when you are stranded? Of course Sayid cannot remember anything.

2. Few lines delivered by Jack are pathetic. For instance - After Sawyer's flashback, he asks Jack about his father.
Sawyer - "So your father is a doctor too"
Jack: "was"
Jack: "Why do u want to know about my father?" This lines was delivered badly. I mean Sawyer just asked something ...

3. Where is Shannon after her brother gets injured?

4. I have hard time believing that no one has come looking for these survivors. I mean an international flight disappeard. And it is not Bermuda Triangle we are talking about.

5. Kate and sawyer swim underwater to find dead bodies. No clear explanation is given if they were victims of the crash or something else.
********************************************

There are lot of other irritating features about this show. This is just an ok show with some great moments. Favorite characters - Hurley, Locke, Sayid

How in the world u are not interested in finding other people on this island when you are stranded? Of course Sayid cannot remember anything."

First of all, she's an insane woman with a gun, traps and knowledge of the island which she has already shown she is ready to use against any newcomers. Why risk you're life to meet a french woman? He got the maps. What more does he want? Plus... Hurley goes after her in a later episode, leading Sayid, Charlie and Jack to her.

"2. Few lines delivered by Jack are pathetic. For instance - After Sawyer's flashback, he asks Jack about his father.
Sawyer - "So your father is a doctor too"
Jack: "was"
Jack: "Why do u want to know about my father?" This lines was delivered badly. I mean Sawyer just asked something ..."

Whats 'pathetic' about this line? All Jack gets off Sawyer is sarcasm and name-calling. When Sawyer shows an interest in Jack (Jack doesnt know Sawyer met his father at this point remember) Jack just assumes he's going to be messing around.

"3. Where is Shannon after her brother gets injured?"

She's with Sayid on an unknown beach having an all-night picnic.

"4. I have hard time believing that no one has come looking for these survivors. I mean an international flight disappeard. And it is not Bermuda Triangle we are talking about."

Do you know how big the Pacific Ocean is? People go missing in countries all the time, none of which are anywhere near the size of the ocean, plus the likelyhood a plane would land ANYWHERE near an island would be millions to one. Where would they start looking, as has been mentioned in the show they were 6 hours off course. Any sane person would assume they were dead. It's unlikely they'd even do a search for any wreckage. The chances of finding anything are way to slim. Plus, why do you so easily say "It's not as if they're in the Bermuda Triangle?" It's clearly no ordinary island. They've mentioned many times that they should not have survived the crash. This is no ordinary island.

"5. Kate and sawyer swim underwater to find dead bodies. No clear explanation is given if they were victims of the crash or something else. "

One of them has the cop's gun-case... OFF THE PLANE! They're sitting in PLANE SEATS. These might be tiny hints they're victims of the plane crash.

Im not going to force my opinion on you. If you think it's OK, then that's fine by me. Im glad you attempted to put forward some plot holes, rather than going into an immature "ThIs suXX0rs" Rant. I find the show compelling viewing. I think the casting, acting and story are all superb. The character progression is some of the best ive ever seen, and Im glad they made this island a complete mystery rather than simply making it a 'scripted survivor' as you put it.

By all accounts the plots and situations on this show (with the exception of the plane crash) are so clich??d and silly they shouldn't work, but then why is it so damn good and compelling?

Spoilers:
I mean, I was half expecting them to rename it Jurassic Flies. Although I realise no dinosaurs are involved (I laughed so hard when Jack even blatantly admits this allusion when he says to Hurly: "It was not a dinosaur!") But seriously, great T.V. that suffers from a lot of fat that only serves to make the revelations all that more potent. Was I the only one shocked when Boone died? Or when Sun first spoke english, or when the boy burned the raft, or when you find out Locke was a handicap once. These characters are so well defined that it really helps to make up for the often pathetic story lines that I hope to be something much better (I'm really getting tired of that roaring creature and those "others", hopefully it turns into something really interesting, like they're already dead and they're in pergatory or something of the like. Genetic research facilities have been done).

Inaudible_Whisper,

Thanks for replying to my every point. My replies to your answers.

1. I know that the French woman is insane. But not talk about it or do anything does not add much to the plot.

2. The line is still pathetic. Maybe I can ignore it.!

3. I know Shannon is with Sayid but for 8 minutes no talks about it. It is later when Jack indicates to others.. where is Shannon?

4. There have been so many crashes in last 5 years. Just because there are no survivors doesn't mean that the rescue team should not look for survivors. In 1983, Air India planne crashed over Indian Ocean. Now you know how big oceans are? The rescue team was able to retrieve the black box from the ocean bed. Whats happening to the family members (not in the plans)whose relatives where in the plane? With present technology, it is tough to convince me that the rescuers gave hope of finding anyone. Tough sell especially when the writers don't talk about what is happening on the other side.

5. Yeah I know it from the plane. But where is the plot development? Why not talk about it? Or look for others ?

This is still a scripted surviror show. It is a good show but far from being a great one. The only thing that saves the show is the non linear fashion of character development. You remove that and you left with nothing.

Onijay--

Very well said. I had the same problems that you had with the show.

I seriously hope that lot of questions are answered rather than leaving us with more questions at the end of season 2.

"1. I know that the French woman is insane. But not talk about it or do anything does not add much to the plot."

They probably would talk about it but they cant show us every bit of conversation that goes on. Admittedly, they should have shown a little bit of communication to show interest in the woman, She plays a much larger role in the last few episodes of the series, so maybe they just wanted to leave her as a mystery (Like they did with basically everything in the first series).

"2. The line is still pathetic. Maybe I can ignore it.!"

Yeah, sometimes I cringe at lines in movies and shows that dont bother people. Each to their own.

"3. I know Shannon is with Sayid but for 8 minutes no talks about it. It is later when Jack indicates to others.. where is Shannon?" Maybe Im not understanding which exact part you're talking about, but Sayid takes Shannon to the beach (Nobody knows exactly where they've gone) and they stay there all night (The is explained in a conversation at the beach between Sayid and Shannon). Then they come back the next morning and confront Jack.

"4. There probably was a search party, we dont know. I think just focusing on the Island makes us feel isolated like them, not knowing if anybodies looking or not. I still stick with my point though that it is highly unlikely a search party would find anything. The Pacific ocean is a lot bigger than the indian ocean and they were 6 hours off course so they could be virtually anywhere. Plus most of the ocean floor is left unexplored due to its depth and size, so a search for a black box is a definate no.

"5. Yeah I know it from the plane. But where is the plot development? Why not talk about it? Or look for others ?"

We know from the back story that all Kate wanted from that bank was the toy plane, so once she seen that case again thats all she wanted and cared about. The last thing on her mind would be to find more people and she refused to talk about the case itself until Jack forced it out of her. The island is vast and theres a 'security system' and animals out there, I dont think it would be a very good idea to go searching for the dead, especially since all they would have on them is hand luggage (Like the Gun Case). Once again, we can assume that maybe they do talk about the dead but the script has much more important things to focus on. I don't think it was particularly necessary for plot development.

I disagree with you, but I can see and understand where you're coming from. I completely agree with Onijay about the plot being cliche at times. The first time I watched it, I thought it was way too predictable, and still do at times. But I just think its an overall great show. It doesnt do anything particularly new thus far, but what it does is done well. I too was shocked by scenes such as Boones death, and I thought Charlies near death was pretty powerful. I kept saying to myself "Don't worry, They wouldn't kill Charlie" but they had me worryed for a split second.

As long as the show continues with the mystery, giving answers along the way and comes up with a good original twist I'll be happy.
