Great review, Chris! What do you consider Roeg's best film? I've only seen 'Don't Look Know,' which I loved. You've inspired me to look into this one, and I've had 'Bad Timing' also recommended. Would you recommend any other Roeg films?

Thanks,

Kurtis

"Don't Look Now" is, by far, my favorite Roeg film. "Walkabout" is also very good. "Performance" is well worth watching, though I'm not sure whether I actually think it's good or not; it is certainly unusual, even for a Roeg film (he co-directed it, actually). A good friend of mine heartily recommends 'The Witches" as a kids' film, but I haven't seen it.

Roeg's elliptical editing is both fascinating and infuriating. Sometimes it just seems downright ridiculous (like on some instances in "Man who Fell" and "Performance") but sometimes he produces some amazing sequences, like the sex scene in "Don't Look Now." Plus the man respected the human body - most directors today seem terrified by the very thought of nudity.

Thanks for your recommendations Chris. I will look into "Walkabout," "Performance," and "The Witches" (which I presume is an adaptation of Roald Dahl's brilliantly written book). I appreciate your insights into Roeg's editing - having only seen 'Don't Look Now' I can't form much of an opinion. I can say that his previous experience as a cinematographer was very obvious in 'Don't Look Now,' which was beautifully photographed.
