I saw MR when it was released earlier this year, and was only impressed in parts. I thought it was an interesting idea, the stunts and vision of the future were impressive, and acting was top notch. But I felt that Spielberg was losing his touch. I was not that impressed by A.I, and this seemed to have been made with an A.I. hangover.

Well aware of my feelings, I still went ahead and purchsed the DVD (mainly because I cant resist anything directed by Spielberg, as even his lesser achievments are greater than what Hollywood normally churns out). After leting it sit on the shelf for about a week, I decided to check it out again ....

I go into such detail, as I feel many others will feel the same as I did. Having seen it again, I can confirm that we were all wrong !!! Spielberg HAS made an awesome film. a hybrid of bladerunner and the fugitive, with a touch of Hitchcock and Kubrick for flavour.

The acting is spot on, Cruise is perfectly cast. I cant imagine anyone else in his role. The visuals are awesome, and really do present a possible future.

I was totally involved whilst my DVD viewing of this film. It contains so much! several layers to the story and characters. And you will not know what Cruise will do when he finds the victim until the last moment.

My only remaining compliant is that the pay-off is rushed and ill-thought. It offers a simplistic resolution to our heros troubles. A bit to neat for my liking. But the journey is what counts here, and its one you have to experince again to truly appreciate it.

This is amongst Spielbergs finest moments, along with Saving Private Ryan, Schindlers List, Jaws and the Indy films.

The DVD is well made, with attention clearly given to quality. You will find an indepth analysis of the extras in the main review, with which I agree. I would just add that the commentary track will not be missed once you have checked them out.

This film grows on you. Although the images may be in-your-face, the emotions behind the story are subtle and need to be found in your own time. Believe me, they are there.

All I can say is, "WOW". I mean that, truly. I saw the previews for this, and thought, "Well, that looks interesting", but never gave it another thought. Then, the day it came out on DVD, I thought, "Oh, yeah, I heard that was a good movie". Instead of renting it, I just bought it. I like adding movies to my collection, even if I havent seen them. Sometimes, I regret buying a movie on DVD that I havent seen. Not with this one. I am very glad I purchased it. The story is one of the most interesting stories to be put onto film in a LONG time. Tom Cruise proves why he is a highly regarded actor, and Spielberg proves that he still has the ability to make WONDERFUL films. I cant get enough of this movie, and I must say that this is one of the better DVD releases of 2002. Very nice menus, and great extras. I would like for them to have recorded a commentary, and perhaps, very soon, they will release an Ultimate Edition of "Minority Report", with commentary, and even more features!

I love Minority Report up until the last 5 minutes of the movie. The visuals are stunning, the acting is great, and the story is reminscent of many fine thrillers that keep you wondering until ALMOST the very last. I was awoken from greatness at the final resolution, at which point I was thoroughly disappointed. Like the reviewer, I would have liked to see things unfold as the pre-cogs envisioned, as this would have made for a more startling view of the future in this films universe. As it was, it was, in typical Spielberg fashion, neatly tied up in a pretty red bow in the last 5 minutes like some mediocre Star Trek episode where no one could figure out exactly how to create a realistic, dramatic ending. Someone needs to tell Mr. Spielberg that not all movies need to end on a positive note. Otherwise, this movie was great.

fyi, there will never be a commentary on a spielberg dvd. he doesnt like to do them. he thinks that they spoil the magic.

I have been resisting this movie for two years. Mainly because I dislike any kind of fantasy, and sci-fi in particular. But because of the publicity the movie received it is no wonder I caved in. Sucker... that I am. Like to know what the talk is about.
I did however find MR quite interesting. The only thing that annoyed me in this movie was the whole ball-rolling-out concept. If humans were smart enough to invent computers that show one??s mind, what was this primitive mechanism of a ball being painted, rolled out like a lotto and then a name carved on to it? I am sure this is some sort of an artistic metaphore but I am failing to figure it out.

it's explained in the movie. the balls are made of wood. each piece of wood has a specific set of whirls. therefore, they can't be faked like a computer read-out can.
