Moonraker [Special Edition]

I'm surprised you liked this so much. Personally, I find it to be one of the worst Bond movies -- too broadly comical and silly for my taste. You are correct, though, that Roger Moore does nail the part here.

Coincidentally, I watched "Moonraker" again just the other night because I am going through the entire series again in chronological order. I far preferred Moore's next film, "For Your Eyes Only," with no gimmicks whatsoever, just pure adventure. You're right; for absolute silliness, "Moonraker" is the epitome of Moore's reign as Bond and why I thought he made almost the least-convincing Bond of all. But, yeah, I still liked the special effects and Jaws and all that great scenery.

The special effects and great scenery? You have to be kidding. You're being sarcastic, arn't you? "Moonraker" has to be one of the corniest Bond films ever! I saw it a few months ago, and if anything, I laughed at how appauling it was.

Thank goodness things get back to normal with "For Your Eyes Only", which I feel is Moore's best Bond film. However, things do go back to crap in "Octopussy" as Bond does a Tarzan yell in the jungle while swinging on a vine, and not to mention, some of the worst editing I've seen in a Bond movie. Then there's "A View to a Kill" which isn't worth the time to bitch about.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for scenery. I loved the scenes in Venice and South America, esp. You're right, though; it is hard to justify liking something so admittedly corny and silly as "Moonraker," but of all the Moore Bonds, there are only three I like: this one for its spectacle, "The Spy Who Loved Me," and "For Your Eyes Only." The rest are pretty weak stuff.

I've always thought of "Moonraker" as the "Star Trek 5" of the franchise - the one everyone wants to pretend never happened. Loved it when I was a kid though.

"Die Another Day" was the pits as far as I'm concerned. Halle Berry is a TERRIBLE actress. Director Lee Tamahori was probably thinking more about what dresses to wear after hours rather than how to shoot a movie. Brosnan phoned in his performance. The only good thing about the movie was Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost, but she was under-used.

I thought "Die Another Day" was an adequate action flick, but not a good Bond film at all. The only thing "Bond-ish" about the movie was the character's name.

"The World is Not Enough" was a crushing disappointment simply because of the criminal waste of Robert Carlyle's talent - he had the potential to be the best Bond villain since Robert Shaw or at least since Robert Davi. Instead, they just made him a generic "crazy guy" and didn't even give him much screen time.

The true villain in "The World Is Not Enough" is played by Sophie Marceau. Robert Carlyle was playing a pawn--he was *****-whipped, as they say.

Well, I think Halle Berry can act when given the right role. Let's face it, 90% of Bond women acted poorly. Many of them gave a whole new trademark performance to wooden acting.

I, too, agree with Chris that "Moonraker" was a good film when I was a kid, but now . . . what the hell was I thinking? However, I really enjoyed "Die Another Day" and I guess it was the whole rogue agent thing that did it for me. Then again, I might have the same feelings I do about "Die Another Day" as I do about "Moonfaker" in ten-years.
