That's funny about the deleted scene thing, because I distinctly remember seeing that when I saw this in theaters and it's definitely on my VHS copy.

The scene was not included in the widescreen version, but is on the fullscreen version. It's quite depressing, actually. Just when you think you have a version of a film that can be purchased (because the studios have reversed their "mucking" of it... we get this.
