Just a couple of casting notes: Universal originally wanted Chevy Chase to play Otter (Tim Matheson), but director John Landis resisted. Chase went on that year to do "Foul Play," a big-hit picture and a role for which he was probably better suited. And Dan Aykroyd was supposed to play D-Day but couldn't get away. Aykroyd might have been interesting in the part and made even more of it than Bruce McGill. Who knows with these "what if" questions.

Yeah, and Tom Hulce plays the quiet nice guy in this movie and did a complete reversal in "Amadeus".

Yet another piece of trivia is if John Belushi would have turned down the role of Bluto the studio was prepared to offer it to Meatloaf.
