Excellent. I've been holding off on buying the bare-bones release in the event that this very disc would become available. I'm always nervous when buying a classic bare-bones release from Warner Bros. You never know if it will be released in better form. For example look at the future 3 months where we have special editions of 'Dog Day Afternoon,' 'All the President's Men,' 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being,' 'Ryan's Daughter' (for fans of Lean), 'The Wild Bunch,' and of course this disc being released in the form of 2-Disc Special Editions.

Simply phenomenal acting in this film. And great direction to boot. Lumet is a genius.

I CAN'T WAIT! My favorite movie - 2-Disc Special Edition! Yes, yes, yes!

Oh, man -- 2006 is turning out to be a great year:

Network - Special Edition
A Clockwork Orange - Special Edition
2001: A Space Odyssey - Special Edition
The Shining - Special Edition
Eyes Wide Shut - Special Edition

Plus, I've got a brother on the way in a couple months, so:

Lady & The Tramp - Platinum Edition
Dumbo - Special Edition
The Little Mermaid - Platinum Edition

John,

You're a lucky man. What a great thing to be able to review such a wonderful piece of cinema.

Satire that looks today is if it falls on deaf ears in the general community, Network predicted, as the film Charly similarly predicted, the dominance of television in American society. As grotesque as the film makes corporate networks seem, America is still lapping this "entertainment" up by the bucketful.

Great review, John. Thanks as always for your insights!

Sean (...my outsights can't do much for the movie, though...)

Bravo ! Just as Sean said - You are a lucky man getting these movies well in advance. I can't wait to get - All the president's men, Network and DDA. Finally we have a nice releease for an awesome flick.

So, when are we going to be treated with the review of Dog Day Afternoon?

The "Dog Day" posting follows the special edition of "Lady and the Tramp," meaning in a few more days.

I watched this movie yesterday for the first time. Brilliantly acted and well written. However, that said - I found certain elements of the movie to be very irritating.

First, I found the yelling was way too much and characters went too over the top. After every 5 minutes you have a verbal shout match and he/she yells hard and loud wins. This I thought was very one dimentional aspect of the movie. These things might have happened in 70s & it certainly seemed dated. The only sedate aspect of the movie was when Holden was on screen. Peter Finch I thought acted stupendously but went over the top. The movie ended up giving me headache that I enjoyed!!

I was also surprised to know that Beatrice Straight won an oscar for mearly 5 minutes on screen for delivering only 10 lines. Her real role was when Max tells her about the affair. Thats it. Did it spoil my entertainment. Hell no. In those 3-4 minutes, I heard some of the best lines in a long time. Some of the lines ( not exactly as delivered)

Beatrice Straight - Does she love you ?
Max - I don't know. This woman can't love anyone. She can't feel it. Her world is ratings.
Beatrice Straight - Do you love her?
Max - I don't know what I feel.
Beatrice Straight - You will get hurt

And then you have whole scene about Corporate Cosmology. Priceless! I know I will watch it again just for the dialogues.

Eddie -

You are right! Everytime characters shouted, I had to turn down the volume. The audio is bad for this movie. For heaven sake, save me from these verbal whiplashes!

Everyone say it with me - I am mad as hell and I will turn down the volume. ;)
