No, that's not bad... In fact, I don't mind it. Compare it to Last Samurai or Open Range, and it's high-art

True, but at least in TLS the color tone was true throughout the entire picture. I mean here it's all dark except for Travolta's flesh toned noggin.

lions gate did not provide us (or any other website, really) with review copies of this dvd. therefore, we probably won't be publishing a review of it.

So very few of the reviews on this site are actually from dvds bought or otherwise rented by the reviewers?

depression: it's impractical to buy dvds ourselves as we'd be forced to buy movies that we didn't want to have, lol.

dvd magic: we were actually offered something called a "check disc" for "the punisher". basically, the pr lady handling the title said that lions gate was not giving anyone a copy of the final commercial release. dvd town has a policy of reviewing only final commercial releases because sometimes, "check discs" differ from what people can buy. for example, the "lantana" check disc had an audio commentary, but the final commercial release didn't. therefore, dvd file's review of "lantana" was incorrect for at least a month before the people at that site responded to my repeated e-mails about their erroneous review. as we didn't want to waste our time with a "check disc" that might mis-represent what the actual "the punisher" dvd has, we chose not to get a "check disc".

(fyi, a "check disc" is a test disc stamped at the authoring facility to make sure that the eventual dvd will play on a wide variety of players. they are then sent to non-industry people for additional verification.)

Right, but there are a lot of good movies I see not reviewed that I figured you guys would have owned from buying.

Depression,

We don't have time to review everything that is released. We don't have time to review everything that is sent to us. Therefore, it makes no sense to review DVDs that we buy with our hard-earned money unless we REALLY wanted to publicize its existence.

dvd magic,

like i wrote, check discs may differ greatly from their final commercial release counterparts, so as we don't want to waste time reviewing something that most people can't obtain anyway, we didn't bother reviewing it. besides, a check disc without disc art, inserts, keepcase art, or even a keepcase isn't as nice as having the real deal, you know?

Actually, I requested the disc after I double checked with the PR firm and the one that I received from them does have all the extras intact, just not the enclosed comic book. I am not too concerned about cover art or inserts anyway.

Look for a review by tomorrow.

Eddie,

And that's totally understandable. I guess I'm just looking at it from a fans perspective as opposing to that of a writer who is dedicated and has a duty as a reviewer to a site.

Depression,

Well, even though working for DVD Town is a "hobby", it still requires a lot of our time and professionalism. Therefore, we operate it as a "real" company rather than simply a collection of fan reviews.

I mean, there's a reason why publications like "USA Today" ask us for quotes.

The lull in between the action is actually nice because it gave the story some breathing room to grow instead of just mindless killings.

It would seem any movie you buy these days is a gamble. But seeing how I'm not an extras buff per-se, I'm usually content with the original release ala Hellboy/Spiderman.

exactley. i'm even a little worried about a box set of star wars eps. 1-6. think about it. ep. 1 and 2 are discontinued, wait long ebough to build anticipation(like the original trilogy) then put out the set with all of them. but i guess you cant pass up the original trilogy...
