Hi, if you live in the United States or Canada, you will be buying/renting the Region 1 DVD of this movie released by Sony (Columbia TriStar). French is actually an official language in Canada, but Spanish is not an official language in Region 1. Mexico and other Central American countries may be in North America, but they are not Region 1 when it comes to DVD codes. Therefore, I think that is why Sony decided to include a French track but not a Spanish track. Sorry...

I had to comment few things after reading your losy review...
"I was surprised by the amount of feedback that my review generated. I was also surprised by the number of people who couldn???t deal with the fact that a computer-animation movie was trying to break new technological ground while being a thoughtful, philosophical work. "
First off all, you rated this "pretty good" animation with grade 10 - which is more than it deserved. No wonder you got feedback on that one - dunno what you were thinking, but it wasnt nearly that good. The plot was good, ideology fresh and animation excellent, but acting very poor. Storytelling mediocre. The whole was nowhere near perfect.
But back to RE.
"According to the Internet Movie Database, [Milla] Jovovich plays ???Alice/Janus Prospero/Marsha Thompson,??? although I don???t believe anybody ever calls her anything."
Who cares what IMDB tells us about the character, havent we seen characters without names in any other movies? (clint eastwood, anyone?) - I dont take this as a flaw in a movie, nor should you... Especially when the character suffers from a memory loss and isnt supposed to know her name.
"There is one neat effect when characters unwisely venture into a corridor and the door slams shut on them. ... Since the grid is inescapable, what were the earlier lasers about? Does the corridor have a sense of humor?"
Does the name Red Queen tell you anything ... the main cpu with the a.i. that controlled the hive (which you didnt mention in your review at all)? Didnt it ever occur to you that maybe the Red Queen controlled all the defenses of the Hive, including the lasers in the corridor..? (shame on you)
"The Hive is set to lock itself forever after 60 minutes have passed, so the characters are racing against time. In other words, after it shuts all of its doors, and gasses and drowns everybody, it waits 60 minutes and really shuts its doors--big time."
If I remember correctely it was the team themselves who set the timer, if they dont make it back in time - the virus wouldnt spread anyhwhere else..?
My comments to you:
Next time watch the movie and write a review that is based on the facts - EVEN IF IT AS WORSE AS RESIDENT EVIL.
My comments on the film:
Huge disappointment, I enjoyded the game about 7 years ago and hoped the movie would be worth something. But it wasnt. The original plot was about a commando team fighting a rampaging A.I. equipped computer, but someone got a great idea to mix this with the resident evil script/game. Which didnt work too well.
The plot is inmature, acting mediocre at is best, depending if you like techno/rave music - it is good or horrible. Nothing new here - all seen before in Romeros Dead trilogy and Alien films.
There is a UNRATED version coming - which might include more material for zombiefilmfans. Or not...

Hi, tollo2000, if you read my review carefully, youll see that the parts that you didnt like about it were actually me quoting Roger Eberts review. I simply wanted to share his review with DVD Towns readers--I thought that it was hilarious. :-)
As for "Final Fantasy", I gave it a "10" for Ent. Value because it entertained and fascinated ME. ME, folks, ME. I admired its visionary style and the filmmakers desire to do something that was leaps and bounds better than what the competition was trying to do. I can understand if others dont like it--there are plenty of people who dislike what are commonly acknowledged as classics--but please understand that my 10 rating was MY rating, not some sort of objective standard. :-P

I saw this movie in theaters for free and it is easily the 3rd worst movie of 2002 so far (behind Rollerball and Jason X). I had heard that a lot of gore had to be cut out to get an R rating and I thought that the DVD would be some sort of an uncut version. Not that any extra gore would help this cinematic atrocity any. I just thought it would be interesting to see just how much had to get cut out mainly due to the fact that I cant stand the hyprocritical MPAA.
Even if youre a Milla Johovich addict and youve heard comments about her doing nudity in this movie, it really is only for a couple of seconds and is very brief.
She does look ravishing in the movie, but overall it is nothing but an over edited mess designed to give the unsupecting viewer migraines.

Uck! What a terrible movie! Paul W.S. Anderson should be shot (or even better: never be allowed to write or direct again!). Why the hell didn't he just stick to the story of the first game? Rather than this contrived ridiculously boring and silly plot. In fact this movie has little to do with the game at all, except for the name, bad camera angles and acting (JUST LIKE THE GAME! WOW!). Seriously: bad acting, bad story, bad makeup, utterly God awful music (Thanks again Marilyn Manson for screwing up yet another film soundtrack, you bastard you), horrendously terrible CG (the licker looked pathetic in the establishing shots, and those dogs are not fooling anyone!), bad script (if Paul actually even wrote one... I wouldn't be surprised to find out the actors scripts were written on coffee cups given to them the day they shot the scene, for all the good it would've done them!) crappy climax ("this man should be in the Nemesis program! FIN!") and well, everything else sucks! This is just a bad film. I wanted to like it, but I won't lie to myself, it is terrible. I am yet to see a good film either written or directed by Mr. Anderson (who knows how to successfully destroy franchises -Cough-Cough- AVP-Cough). When will the man just give up and die? By the way, don't buy this worthless Special Edition, it's worthless. I've made my peace. And Paul: I hope you're reading this.
