Its a scary and very effective film. I was so scared I peed my pants, lucky for me I wear "Depends". I find as I get older I just cant hold it in like I used to. Now I get even a small scare and Im soaking up the diaper! "The Ring", however, made me crap my pants! Well, I wont go into details on that, but details would propbably be my biggest argument about "The Ring". The only thing I could find wrong were so many details were left unanswered. I guess it was meant to be that way, I mean, in the event that you would be planning to make a sequal then, I guess, you wouldnt want to give everything away, no?

I felt like cell phone companies should have been passing out free phones as you were leaving the theatre. Think of the marketing on that idea! I can just see the Verizon commercial now, "can you kill me now... good!" When I first saw this film in the theatre some bozo had a cell phone that made an annoying ring, in the middle of the film no less! Well, it was one of my grumpy moments in life as I yelled, "foreget the seven days, Im going to kill you now!".

Then, of course, theres the one best thing about "The Ring"... Naomi. I mean, should I really say more? Sure, shes not as skinfull as she was in "Mulholland Drive", but she still inspired the more sensitive part of my body. Forget the acting, shes drop dead sexy, naughty, shagadelic, and in need of a spanking!!!

The only thing truly scary about The Ring is probably its flat character development and poorly assembled script. I'm not sure why everyone thinks The Ring is so horrifying. Sure, the movie is, and I stress, TOP HEAVY on mood and atmosphere, only because there is nothing else it really has going for it.

The two bright spots in the film are Gore Verbinski, the director, and the amazing Naomi Watts. Verbinski keeps the film looking clean and smooth with his camera angels, and Watts adds depth to a character that the screenplay provides nothing for (and I mean NOTHING).

Again, I'm not sure why a lot of people find a little girl making her merry old way out of a TV set scary. The Ring is not a bad film at all, but it is far from great as well. The director did a good job of pounding the atmosphere of dread and horror into veiwers heads, so they wouldn't look at the story and characters.

I would reccommend it for the technical aspects from Verbinski and Watts. I think these two have a lot of potential for Hollywood. But, if you want to see a twisted and bizarre film that truly shows Watts talents as an actress, check out David Lynch's amazing Mulholland Drive.

This movie was good and scary...But I did have to watch it a few times to totally understand what was going on with the story line...And the movie didn't explain a lot of things, for example: Aidan..why was he drawing coffins before he even watched the tape? Is he psychic? They didn't explain that in the movie, or are we just not supposed to know? Overall I liked it and would give it an 8/10.

Karrie,

That's one of the plot holes in the movie, instead of developing the character, they decided to drop in the stereotypical "creepy kid." I didn't mind the movie, but it did have some logical gaps I didn't apprecaite. Decent acting, good scares, I'd recommend it as a rental.

justin,

that's not necessarily a plot hole as it's an accepted convention that, in fictional realms, kids have access to supernatural forces that adults don't. plus, just because something wasn't explained doesn't necessarily make it a plot hole.

I have to agree with Eddie on this one. The movie was not meant to explain much, but rather give you an atmosphere and emotion that was dark and creepy. I thought it was very effective without giving me the ???spoon-fed??? normal plot line as we see with so many films of this genre.

My parents were staying in my house last spring, and while I was at work, they went through my DVD collection and watched this film. I came home as they were about half way through it and was surprised to see they were watching it. My folks generally only like films that are simple and don???t make them have to think. However, they thought this film was very well done for a creepy movie. They actually ended up enjoying it for the value of how effective it was.

"Most importantly, "The Ring" proves a key point once and for all--VHS is evil, and DVD is the way to go. "

I'm gonna make shirts, hats, posters, etc. featuring this quote.

I think people are a little too hard on this film. I liked it. It had some very scary elements to it. It get's increasingly scary as you go along. There were even some artistic and cleaver elements that attributed greatly to the earie feel of the movie. If you've never seen it, it%
