Robots [Special Edition]

Hm.. from your review, I can't seem to understand why you would still merit this film a "6". Is that entirely based on the visual look of the film (and the "few" chuckles you had, BEFORE you fell asleep)?

I liked this movie about as much as you did. I came close to falling asleep, as well. It is visually fun to look at but does lack in the story department as you pointed out in your most outstanding, very well writen review. I too would warent this film a 6. Oh yes, a big fat 6 is fair enough for this film.

Robots was no more than an eye-candy film
with lots of visual tricks.
But the plot was so mundane and bland
that's why it gets a six.

Yes, like Tim I thought the film was fun to look at, and it creates a unique world of its own. But for me (and accordiing to our DVD Town rating scale) that does not mean "Robots" isn't still a purely ordinary, run-of-the-mill film in the 5 or 6 category.

On the other hand, there is nothing about the film so bad as to merit anything less than a 5. That would be "Hellraiser: Hellworld" territory. Except for the extended fart scene, there is nothing insulting or incompetent about "Robots." Therefore, a 5 or 6 seems reasonable.

However, evaluating films is obviously not an exact science, and when I posted links to the review at the Web sites of the Online Film Critics Society and Rotten Tomatoes, I noticed I was in a minority in not liking the film as well as many other reviewers.

Oh, and how did I decide between a 5 and a 6? That's what coins are made for, and Wife-O-Meters.
