The epitome of "golly, gee-whiz," the Rocketeer doesn't just harken back to the Saturday Matinee serials, it takes one of that era's characters (Commander Cody, though not in name) for a 90s spin.
Set before WWII, this is as uncynical a U.S.A. as you can get, but that naivete adds to the charm of this one.
I have to admit, I really like this one even if most of my Gen Xer friends don't. It's refreshing to have a fun, action-packed movie that you can enjoy as a family without having to cover your kids' ears.
And hey, it's got a pre-waif Jennifer Connelly (someone please toss this woman a hamburger, she needs some meat on 'dem bones) as well as a fiery Zeppelin! My kind of Saturday afternoon romp.
Sean (does CAA now have a heroin chic department?)

Talk about a movie that desperately needs a special edition. The video and audio on this disc are completely flat, and while I'll admit it was far from a hit at the box office, a lot of people adore this movie, myself included. Hopefully Disney will work something up to play off any hype for the stylistically similar "Sky Commander" this summer.
