My Top 10 Favorite Horror Movies:

1 - The Exorcist
2 - Psycho
3 - Rosemary's Baby
4 - Alien
5 - The Silence of the Lambs
6 - Halloween
7 - Night of the Living Dead
8 - Carrie
9 - Invasion of the Body Snatchers '78
10 - Scream

"Rosemary's Baby" is just a perfect movie. The direction, incredibly smart cast, beautifully adapted script from Ira Levin's novel creates big chills. I love the time capsule it turned out to be, capturing New York at the end of the 60's; and showing how isolated and helpless one can feel in the big city. I also think it's Mia Farrow's best performance. I love John Cassavetes, but after hearing that Polanski wanted Robert Redford I can't help wondering how fantastic he might have been. One would least suspect Redford of being as conniving in his betrayal. Playing against type can be so effective and in that role much more subliminal, but I digress. Love the film as is.

Yes, I did check out your article. I agree, "The Haunting" remake was forgettable. I do like "The Legend of Hell House" It's akin to "The Legacy" which I like too.

Can someone help me out with a couple of titles.

Debra Raffin, Ava Gardner...Brooklyn Heights apartment building with a past...?

There was another movie I've only seen twice, back in late 70's early 80's. A black comedy I think. I remember thinking how Hitchcock might have loved this flick. It was about some seniors who refused to move out of their apartment building that was set for demolition. One of the women was named Maddie. Does anyone have a title for me, and is it available on DVD? I wonder if Anchor Bay might have it. It's not the Spielberg produced "*batteries not included".

Well, the first one is "The Sentinel," 1977, with Ava Gardner, Chris Sarandon, Jose Ferrer, and Martin Balsam.

As for the second one, it sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't place it.

Yes. Thank You. "The Sentinel". I remember all these freaky-looking people who would show up, and Raffin was chosen to be the protector against evil. Something like that. And the freaks were real people, like in "Freaks".

That second movie...still can't think of a title. I remember a scene where the seniors kill the landlord or contractor at a hi-rise being built and they stuff him into a crate and pour cement over him. His foot sticks out of a crack in the box and they have to cut the tip off with an ax.

I hope they never make a remake of ROSEMARY'S BABY. No one will ever come close to this.

I encourage everyone to buy the DVD of Roman Polanski's, THE TENANT. It is a very good psychological horror movie.

Phil D: Actually, I've heard rumors about ABC network doing a miniseries. A remake of the original plus the sequel Ira J. Levin wrote.

ABC made "Whatever Happened to Rosemary's Baby?" decades ago starring Patty Duke! *cringe*
