cover art is ok, but the "#1 comedy of all" time pisses me off. i would consider this a family movie, or a family comedy; not just a straight up comedy

Even though I agree that Shrek 2 is the funniest thing in long, long time, I still wonder who gets to make these decisions. Does Academy call it a No.1 comedy of all time? Or was there a focus group once upon a time?

I think that's based on its box-office performance, though no one ever bothers adjusting for inflation.

As Eddie pointed out it is referring to box office figures.

It appears by the adjusted gross list that "Ghostbusters" would be the #1 "pure" comedy of all time (discounting fairy-tale animations like "Snow White" and comedy dramas like "Forrest Gump" and "The Sting").

I heard it on a radio program that adjusted for inflation and all other factors like number of screens, etc, "Birth of a Nation" should be the #1 grossing movie of all time. Coming close is "Star Wars" (forget LOTR) and "Gone with the Wind". Also another factor to consider is there were less competition for your entertainment dollars way back in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Now you have the internet, videogames etc.

i like that list site, but one thing puzzled me. at around number 95 or so was the matrix reloaded. it claimed that with inflation (over only 1 year) the movie earned about 5 million more than it did in box offices! how does a movies gross go up 5 million over just one year? there couldnt possibly be that much inflation over one year!

I thought Shrek 2 was "amusing", though less so than the first. It seemed like the people involved in making this movie tried to hard too poke fun at others while keeping it all family safe.
Kind of like a politically correct 3D animated Scary Movie.
If I had to rate it, I'd give it a 6. Maybe a 7 if I'm gracious.

"The Matrix Reloaded" earned just over $281,000,000 in 2003. A year later, they say its adjusted gross is $5,000,000 more. That's an inflation rate of .01779. Sounds about right to me, the way ticket prices are going up.

This was a funny movie, maybe not as good as the first, but one of the best movies of the year.

This movie was able to maintain the humor and feeling that made the first movie successful. Puss in Boots was the best new character I've seen in the last few years. The movie was fun but not worthy of being called the #1 Comedy of all time. I enjoyed it enough to see it twice but please.

Tim,
The best is still when the cat pretends that he's going to cry.

Eddie,
That is pretty funny. Even the two cats I own try to pull that on me from time to time.

I would have liked more screen time for Puss 'n Boots, at least more dialogue. I just love that cat. I especially love his weepy eyes, and when Puss says something like "My name is Puss... in Boots!" And he keeps falling into them everytime he jumps from a high ledge or whatever. Oh, just so adorable. Definitely deserves a semi spin off. Like Puss 3-D or something along those lines, with Donkey in back moaning.
Did anyone else think that Shrek complains too much in these movies. I hope in the third one he's not so whiny.

Box office figures do not a good movie make. A sucker is born every minute, as a wise circus hawker once barked.
Am I the only one who has a problem with the audio mix on this disc? It was extremely discrete and well-done, but it seemed very quiet to my ears. I had to turn my receiver up substantially from where I usually keep it for most movies to get a decent level.
