I've checked all over the Internet (even the DVD's official site) and there is no word that this is the 3-disc release Robert Rodriguez has been talking about in interviews.

Has anybody had better luck in finding out the number of discs in this edition?

The reason for the mystery is that the powers that be at Buena Vista have not made clear yet whether there will be a multiple-disc set sometime in the future. What they have posted at their official Web site is that "the DVD will be available in one of four limited-edition collectible packages, while supplies last," and that the DVD contains a behind-the-scenes featurette with interviews with the cast and crew.

I assume the business of "collectible packages" refers to the four different slipcover designs available (click on the second piece of "Cover Art" to the right). But so far, they have only announced the single-disc edition.

I'm thinking that Buena Vista is releasing a bare-bones edition with the four collectible covers (I like the Marv & Goldie one myself), while holding off for a few months until releasing the 3-disc set Rodriguez was talking about. Just in time for the holidays!

That Marv and Goldie cover is almost worth potentially being a victim of a double dip...

Edit: Keep in mind, this alleged double dip is only a guess.

Thank you for your help, Mr. Puccio.

Go to darkhorizons.com to find the interview with Robert Rodriguez if you want all the details, but he says there will definitely be another edition, but that it just isn't ready yet. He says is will be out soon, and that he shot the full graphic novel of each story, and they will be presented as three separate movies on the special edition. He also says exactly what the special features will be, and details on the preparation to shoot SC2.

Personally, with the limited amount of time I have for extra features these days, I'd be completely satisfied with a simple DVD with a great transfer. This edition sounds like it fufills those criteria so I'm definately in.

Michael,

It's been a family secret we were trying to keep from you all these years; but we feel you're now old enough to know: Tim IS your Aunt Martha.

Be sure that they overcharge!

I'm really looking forward to the deluxe becuase the director hinted at an "edit your own movie" type of feature where you actually get to select the scenes you want to see. I don't know how this will pan out or how interactive it will be, but I love to see directors take chances, even if they sometimes don't pay off. As well, having the entirety of each segment available at your disposal is a nice touch. I just hope you can still watch the theatrical version cause I am still yet to see it an am wondering what everyone's so hyped about. I mean c'mon, it can't be that great...;)
